Tim Fuller-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Detroit's star defensive end left Sunday's game with a back injury, but will have two weeks to recover as the team enters its bye week.

Cliff Avril left Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth quarter with a back injury, and the defensive end will have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. Avril, though, left the field under his own power and is optimistic that the injury isn't too serious. The Sporting News reports Avril feels fine:

"I'm fine right now walking around, so that's a good sign," Avril said. "Like I said, we'll see what the results say. It just happened. I think I'll be all right."

The good news for Avril and the Detroit Lions is that the team will have its bye in the upcoming week before returning to the field on the road in Week 6 vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.

Prior to his injury on Sunday, Avril had picked up a half-sack and three tackles in the game. For the season, Avril has 1.5 sacks, 10 tackles and a pass deflection.
