Jim Schwartz not sure if Jahvid Best will take more concussion tests this season

Nobody seems to know when Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best will get back on the field.

The Detroit Lions have not cleared running back Jahvid Best (concussion) to return from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, and the timetable for Best's return is unknown to the point that Lions officials can't even say whether he will come back this season. Detroit's first-round pick from the 2010 NFL Draft has been derailed by head injuries early in his NFL career, and on Wednesday head coach Jim Schwartz refused to make any declarations about whether Best will be back this year, according to Anwar Richardson of MLive.com:

I don't know what the likelihood is (of Best playing this season)," Schwartz said.

When asked if Best would take another concussion test within the next three weeks, Schwartz would not say.

"You know, I think I said on Monday, I'm sort of on a being notified basis on that one," Schwartz said. "I'll leave it up to other people to comment on that."

Best played in 16 games during his rookie season and racked up 555 yards and four touchdowns on 171 carries along with 487 receiving yards on 58 receptions. Last season, he appeared in only six games. The Lions could certainly use his help, as the team is currently ranked No. 19 in rushing yards per game.

The Lions travel to Soldier Field in Chicago to take on the Bears in Week 7.
