Louis Delmas on returning to practice: 'It felt great'

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Lions safety Louis Delmas returned to the practice field for the first time since early in training camp on Wednesday. His status for this weekend is still up in the air.

Detroit Lions safety Louis Delmas practiced for the first time since the season started on Wednesday, but is still questionable for this weekend's game against the Eagles in Philadelphia. Delmas seemed positive, but didn't want to get ahead of himself:

"I did practice today for the first time since my second day of camp," Delmas said. "It felt great. Play time is questionable. I'm going to leave it up to my trainers and coaches. That's pretty much it."

Head coach Jim Schwartz is on the same page, cautiously optimistic about Delmas' status this weekend:

"It's going to depend on how he responds," Schwartz said. "If he responds well to this, then it's how he responds through a week of practice. We're still not even to that point yet."

Delmas had surgery on his right knee on Aug. 7th after experiencing knee soreness, and hasn't stepped on the field since. The injury originally wasn't seen as particularly serious, but has dragged on longer than anyone in the organization could have predicted.
