The Detroit Lions placed rookie cornerback Bill Bentley on injured reserve with a dislocated shoulder.

The Detroit Lions placed rookie cornerback Bill Bentley on injured reserve with a dislocated shoulder on Thursday. Bentley injured his shoulder twice this season and may require surgery.

The Lions picked Bentley in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Louisiana-Lafayette. Bentley appeared in four games for the Lions this season, starting three of them. He missed their Week 2 game with a concussion and he has missed their two most recent contests due to his shoulder injury. Bentley recorded 15 tackles on the season.

Detroit signed defensive back Don Carey to take Bentley's spot on the roster. Carey was waived by the Lions during training camp because of a hamstring injury. He appeared in five games for Detroit last season, mostly as a cornerback. With injuries to safties Louis Delmas (knee) and Amari Spievey (concussion), it is likely Carey could see the field sooner rather than later for the Lions.
