Louis Delmas injury: Gunther Cunningham thinks Lions safety will be back soon

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

Delmas, 25, has been declared out for the Week 9 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

While Lions safety Louis Delmas has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham doesn't think it'll be very long until the fourth-year safety is back on the field. Speaking with Anwar Richardson of MLive.com, Cunningham said that the difference in Delmas's mood about the injury now and his past knee injury is what's most noticeable:

"In his first injury this year, he was really moody and wouldn't talk much. The other day we had it out in our defensive meeting team room. He was laughing, which tells me a lot. It means he's going to be back soon, and the thing's healing. I'm excited for him about that."

Delmas, 25, suffered a knee injury that required minor surgery in August to repair. The injury cost the safety most of training camp and preseason, along with the first four games of the regular season before he returned in Week 6 after a bye to play against the Eagles.

However, he suffered a complication in Week 8 against the Seahawks and was forced to leave the game. A second round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Delmas has recorded one interception in 2012
