Lions' Jahvid Best still wants to play football, according to agent

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE

In 22 career games with the Lions, Best has tallied 945 yards rushing and six touchdowns on the ground along with 85 receptions for 774 yards and three receiving touchdowns.

While the 2012 season is over before it ever began for Jahvid Best, the Lions running back doesn't want it to be the end of his football playing career. Best's agent, Tony Fleming, told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press that his client still wants to play football:

"He obviously still wants to play, we're just in a climate now in the NFL where everybody's extra cautious," Fleming said. "Everybody is concerned about Jahvid and his health and his future, so they're just going to be very cautious and they're not going to clear him until he's ready."

The Lions announced on Friday that Best will remain on the physically unable to perform list for the remainder of the season as he continues to recover from concussions suffered earlier in his career. Best, 23, hasn't played since a hit to the head in Week 6 of the 2011 season against the San Francisco 49ers gave him a concussion.

His playing career in college as a member of the California Golden Bears was cut short after he suffered a serious concussion against Oregon State. The injury caused several teams to reportedly drop the talented running back from their draft boards altogether.
