Calvin Johnson injury: Lions WR expects ailment to linger

Al Messerschmidt

The Detroit Lions star played through a knee injury this week, and will likely have to do so for the indefinite future.

On Sunday, Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars, gobbling up seven passes for 129 yards receiving. But he played through a knee injury that had put his availability in jeopardy, and will likely have to deal with that injury for weeks to come.

According to Anwar Richardson of MLive.com, Johnson took painkillers before the game and met with Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan and quarterback Matthew Stafford to discuss what Johnson was physically capable of handling on Sunday. Johnson told reporters after the game that he's having trouble cutting due to the injury. Johnson, who didn't practice at all last week, also said that he expects the injury to linger for the rest of the season and will have to overcome it with treatment.

The Lions' offense has gotten back on track in recent weeks, and Johnson bounced back from two middling games with a big game on Sunday. For the season, he's caught 48 passes for 767 yards and a touchdown.
