Denard Robinson injury: Michigan QB getting 'better every day'

Eric Francis

Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson's arm injury continues to improve, and the senior remains on track to play this Saturday against Minnesota.

Although things looked quite bleak over the weekend, Michigan head coach Brady Hoke reiterated on Tuesday that star quarterback Denard Robinson is improving and will play against Minnesota, according to a report by Nick Baumgartner of MLive.com.

"He should be fine," Hoke said. "It's just one of those things that flares up now and then depending on how he gets hit. He's better every day."

Robinson did not return to the field after tweaking a previous nerve injury in the second quarter against Nebraska, creating a dire situation for a Michigan offense that failed to step up in his absence. Backup quarterbacks Russell Bellomy and Devin Gardner will continue to share reps in practice on the off-chance that Robinson is unable to play or re-aggravates the injury, but Hoke is fully optimistic that his dual-threat option will be available to face the Gophers.

Despite owning three-year lows in completion percentage (53.6 percent) and quarterback rating (127.4) as a passer at the moment, the 6'0, 197-pound Robinson currently sports a career-high 7.2 yards per carry average through eight games. His turnover-prone style of play remains a constant headache for his coaching staff, but Michigan looks to have dodged a serious bullet here with Robinson not expected to miss any serious time.
