Denard Robinson injury: Devin Gardner gets most QB reps during practice

Leon Halip

Devin Gardner, who spent two years as a quarterback before converting to wide receiver this offseason, took the most reps at quarterback for Michigan, as the Wolverines get ready to take on Minnesota this weekend.

Michigan Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke expects quarterback Denard Robinson to play on Saturday when Michigan heads to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers.

Hoke, though, is preparing as if Robinson won't play. Devin Gardner received most of the reps at quarterback during Michigan's practice, as Hoke and his coaching staff prepare for the worst-case scenario.

Robinson is dealing with a nerve injury in his right elbow. Robinson injured his elbow last weekend, during Michigan's 23-9 loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Through Michigan's first eight games, Robinson is 89-of-166 passing for 1,319 yards, with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Gardner recently moved to wide receiver this past offseason after spending the last two seasons at quarterback.

Russell Bellomy was just 3-of-16 passing for 38 yards in relief of the injured Robinson on Saturday. Bellomy also threw three interceptions -- matching his number of completions to Michigan receivers.

If Robinson is unable to play on Saturday, Gardner will almost certainly get the call over Bellomy -- especially after taking the most reps at quarterback this week.
