Michigan focused on Illinois, not Michigan State

Sandra Dukes-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Michigan's football team has been reading up on the proverbial "Guide to Avoiding an Upset," as the Wolverines staunchly denied answering any questions regarding their game against Michigan State on Oct. 20 by opting to only discuss their contest against Illinois this weekend.

Michigan Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke and his players refused to answer questions about Michigan State on Monday, according to MLive's Nick Baumgardner. Instead, the team talked about focusing on Saturday's matchup against Illinois at Michigan Stadium.

Hoke was asked by a reporter whether or not he was worried about his team looking past the Fighting Illini, and Hoke wanted to hear nothing of the sort:

"That's your opinion. I don't think we'll have any problems."

Meanwhile, Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan also said all the right things in regards to the possibility of looking ahead to the Wolverines' rivalry game against the Spartans on Oct. 20:

"I'll answer all the questions you all want about Michigan State next week. Right now, my focus is Illinois"

The Illini will enter The Big House with a 2-4 overall record, including an 0-2 performance in Big Ten play. The Wolverines have a couple of losses on their resume as well, but have won their only Big Ten game of the season to date, routing Purdue on Saturday, 44-13.
