The Michigan Wolverines trail the No. 24 Northwestern Wildcats 24-21 heading to the fourth quarter at Michigan Stadium.
Northwestern got the ball first in the third quarter, and the Wildcats promptly marched right down the field to go up 21-14 on a 23-yard strike from Kain Colter to Dan Vitale. The Wildcats went 75 yards on the 10-play drive, with Colter doing most of the work. The quarterback kick-started the drive with two rushes for 19 yards, and then later used his legs to help buy time in the pocket before completing a big 13-yard pass on third-and-12.
After Michigan went three-and-out, Northwestern went on the move again. The Wildcats went from their own 30-yard-line down to the Wolverine 10 before settling for a 34-yard field goal by Jeff Budzien.
Michigan cut the score to 24-21 on Fitzgerald Toussaint's 28-yard touchdown reception from Devin Gardner. That play was set up by a 42-yard bomb from Gardner to Jeremy Gallon. Prior to that, a pass interference call helped keep the drive alive for the Wolverines.
