Devin Gardner named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Rick Osentoski-US PRESSWIRE

Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week, along with Wisconsin's Montee Ball.

Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Wolverines' stirring 38-31 overtime victory over the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday.

Gardner, who started his second straight game in place of injured starter Denard Robinson, went 16-of-29 passing for 286 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball nine times for 47 yards and two scores.

Gardner completed a miracle 53-yard bomb to Roy Roundtree in the final minute to set up the game-tying field goal that sent the game to overtime. Gardner then won the game with a 1-yard run.

The strong performance against Northwestern followed an impressive effort in Gardner's first start against Minnesota. In that game, the quarterback went 12-of-18 passing for 234 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a score in a 35-13 win.

Gardner shared the award with Wisconsin running back Montee Ball. The Badgers' running back ran for 198 yards and three touchdowns in a blowout win over Indiana.
