The Michigan Wolverines trail the No. 24 Northwestern Wildcats 24-21 heading to the fourth quarter at Michigan Stadium.
Northwestern got the ball first in the third quarter, and the Wildcats promptly marched right down the field to go up 21-14 on a 23-yard strike from Kain Colter to Dan Vitale. The Wildcats went 75 yards on the 10-play drive, with Colter doing most of the work. The quarterback kick-started the drive with two rushes for 19 yards, and then later used his legs to help buy time in the pocket before completing a big 13-yard pass on third-and-12.
After Michigan went three-and-out, Northwestern went on the move again. The Wildcats went from their own 30-yard-line down to the Wolverine 10 before settling for a 34-yard field goal by Jeff Budzien.
Michigan cut the score to 24-21 on Fitzgerald Toussaint's 28-yard touchdown reception from Devin Gardner. That play was set up by a 42-yard bomb from Gardner to Jeremy Gallon. Prior to that, a pass interference call helped keep the drive alive for the Wolverines.

The Michigan Wolverines and No. 24 Northwestern Wildcats are tied 14-14 at halftime on Saturday at Michigan Stadium. The Wildcats tied the score with a touchdown in the final minute of the half.
Each team exchanged gaffes early in the second quarter. Michigan running back Fitzgerald Toussaint fumbled deep in Northwestern territory on the tail end of a 50-yard run. Several plays later, Wildcats' quarterback Kain Colter fumbled on a sack by Jibreel Black and the Wolverines recovered at the Northwestern 37-yard line.
Michigan took advantage of the good field position, going 37 yards in 10 plays to take a 14-7 lead. Running back Thomas Rawls' 1-yard touchdown finished off the drive, but the key play was quarterback Devin Gardner's 17-yard scramble on third-and-11.
Northwestern tied the score with 25 seconds left in the first half on a 19-yard pass from backup quarterback Trevor Siemian to Cameron Dickerson. Siemian was 4-of-5 on the drive for 51 yards.
Both Michigan and Northwestern have made it a point to get the ground game going, with both teams having some success. The Wolverines have 108 yards rushing, with Toussaint's 65 yards and Gardner's 48 yards leading the way. Wildcats' running back Venric Mark has 60 of Northwestern's 118 rushing yards.

With starting quarterback Denard Robinson once again sidelined due to an injury, the Michigan Wolverines are all knotted up at 7-7 with the No. 24 Northwestern Wildcats at Michigan Stadium. Devin Gardner, who led the Wolverines to a big win in Robinson's absence last weekend, once again got the starting nod.
After Michigan failed to score on the game's opening possession, Northwestern struck first on Venric Mark's 3-yard rushing touchdown. The score capped off a 10-play, 78-yard scoring drive that spanned 4:38. The Wildcats rushed for 59 yards on the drive, with Mark picking up 20 of those yards on five carries. Quarterback Kain Colter rushed for 16 yards of his own and had a big 19-yard completion on a third-and-long.
Michigan answered right back with a 10-play, 78-yard drive of their own. Gardner did most of the damage, completing 3-of-3 passes for 49 yards. He also rushed the ball three times for 16 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown to finish off the drive. The Wolverines benefited from several Northwestern penalties on the drive.
Gardner finished the quarter 4-of-7 for 57 yards passing and had 25 yards rushing on four carries.
