Michigan State guard Branden Dawson tore his ACL against Ohio State back in March, near the end of the regular season, and had successful reconstructive surgery a few days later.
A couple months later and Dawson is already claiming to be two months ahead of schedule, a schedule which usually entails at least eight months for recovery. Tom Izzo is already sharing that optimism [via MLIVE]:
"The knee is coming along great, but it's still a five-month process," Izzo told WOOD-TV's Jason Terzis when he recently was in Grand Rapids.
"Late in July he'll start being able to work out a little harder. Probably late in August he'll be able to start playing again. So you lose a summer, that's always scary. But he's a phenomenal athlete and he's handled this thing really well. I think he'll rebound just fine."
Dawson averaged over eight points on 58-percent shooting and four and a half rebounds in just under 21 minutes per game his freshman season.

Michigan State freshman guard Branden Dawson tore his ACL in the final game of the NCAA regular season against the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Spartans ended up losing the game after a last second comeback by the Buckeyes, ruining their chance to take full possession of the Big Ten regular season title.
Good news is in for Dawson though, as he announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he had surgery and that it went well.
Surgery went well. Thanks for all the support from family, friends, & my
#SpartanNation family. My recovery is so far so good.
Now the test is on the Spartans to win big in March without Dawson on the court. They can start by making some noise in the Big Ten tournament; the Spartans will face either Iowa or Illinois in their first game as the top seed in the conference on Friday.
