Michigan State Football: Monty Madaris Dealing With High Ankle Sprain

Stay connected for news and updates

Michigan State freshman wide receiver Monty Madaris has sustained a high ankle sprain and is not practicing, team officials reported on Wednesday. Madaris, a highly-touted recruit out of Cincinnati, was expected to compete for playing time at wideout this season. The injury could eliminate any chance the incoming freshman has of breaking into the mix; when combined with the previously-reported injury to classmate Aaron Burbridge, the Madaris injury leaves the Spartan depth chart thinner than expected.

"Unfortunately, that's set him back as well," Roushar said. "Those are two big blows for that wide receiver core. We were hoping to get a feel for where they were at and what they could do for us."

The Spartans open their season on Friday, Aug. 31 in a primetime game against the Boise State Broncos.
