Michigan State Vs. Boise State Score Update: Spartans Up 10-3 After First

Stay connected for news and updates

The Michigan State Spartans started their 2012 season with a touchdown. It came on a Le'Veon Bell one-yard rush and it capped a 12-play, 60-yard drive. Bell's touchdown, though, wasn't even the most exciting play of that opening drive. That would go to Bell getting a little air time.

For the quarter, Bell ran for 58 yards on 13 carries as new quarterback Andrew Maxwell settled into his starting role. Maxwell was steady under center for the Spartans, completing five of nine passes for 48 yards and an interception on a bizarre deflection down field.

The Spartans defense dominated the Boise State Broncos' new look offense initially, but Joe Southwick and co. started to move the ball as the quarter wore on. A Spartan stop inside the five-yard line kept the Broncos out of the end zone on their third drive.
