Mike Carter-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Michigan State true freshman receiver Aaron Burbridge has been elevated on the team's depth chart according to head coach Mark Dantonio.

Even though he did not play on offense last week, Michigan State Spartans freshman Aaron Burbridge has officially been listed as the team's No. 3 wide receiver heading into Saturday's game with the Indiana Hoosiers, as reported by Josh Slagter of MLive.com.

The 6'1" receiver from Farmington Hills has only managed to haul down two passes for 14 yards so far this season, but he offers a new dimension that head coach Mark Dantonio believes has been lacking from the offense. "He has big-play potential," Dantonio said. "He needs an opportunity."

"He'll start as the third wide receiver for us this week," Dantonio said, before indicating that the move might not be permanent. "Doesn't mean that'll stick, but that's what's going to happen."

With a 3-2 record and an offense that has struggled to get off the ground in recent weeks, Dantonio needs to hope that he can catch lightning in a bottle, with Burbridge being afforded his first real chance to show his stuff. The local product ran a 4.4-second 40-yard dash time in high school and was rated as the 16th-best receiver nationally by Rivals.com, and fans are understandably anxious to see how he performs with an expanded role this weekend.
