Mark Dantonio downplays alleged eye gouge against Ohio State

Mike Carter-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Spartans coach isn't concerned about complaints from Ohio State.

Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio has seen the film and he's not concerned with any allegations of rough play leveled against his team in their hard-fought, 17-16 loss to Ohio State.

Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer wants the Big Ten to review the rough play, especially a potential eye gouge by Michigan State left guard Jack Allen against Ohio State defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins as both players went at each other with hands around the facemask.

Meyer, coaching his first Big Ten season, complained he had to sit a player for a game for a similar play while coaching in the SEC at Florida. For his part, Dantonio was not impressed with the accusation and viewed the play as just another down in the Big Ten.

"My review of the play saw two players get up after the play and walk back to the huddle," Dantonio said. "There was probably a little something going on with both of them. If you look at the play cleanly, that's what you see. Neither seem to be very bothered by it after the play."

The matter is now in the hands of the Big Ten as Michigan State puts the loss behind them and prepares to play at Indiana on Saturday.
