A day after picking up a commitment from Zak Irvin, Michigan received a commitment from Derrick Walton, a point guard from Detroit. Walton becomes the fourth member of Michigan's 2013 basketball recruiting class, joining Austin Hatch, Mark Donnal and Irvin.
Walton is rated on Rivals as a four-star recruit and the 88th best player in the nation. Scout ranks him 17th at his position and also gives him four stars. ESPN is the only site that gives him three stars, but it does have him ranked 92nd in the nation and 20th at point guard.
According to Rivals, Walton holds offers from Michigan, Central Michigan, Detroit, Iowa State and Xavier.

The Michigan basketball program picked up two verbal commitments last Wednesday. Shortly after 2 p.m. Austin Hatch confirmed the news of his commitment, and not too long after that Mark Donnal did the same. Both received offers from John Beilein earlier in the day and did not wait long to commit.
Hatch is a 6-foot-6 forward from Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is rated as a three-star recruit on Rivals. Scout has not yet evaluated him, and ESPN grades him as an 86 and a two-star recruit.
Donnal is a power forward from Whitehouse, Ohio. He is 6-foot-9 and has three stars on Rivals as well. Like Hatch, Scout hasn't rated Donnal yet. ESPN already has, however, and it gave Donnal three stars and a grade of 91.
Hatch and Donnal are the first two commitments of Michigan's 2013 basketball recruiting class.
