College Football Rankings: Final AP Poll Has MSU, Michigan Just Outside Of Top 10

Unlike the USA Today Poll, the final AP Top 25 of the college football season does not have Michigan State and Michigan in the top 10. Both teams are actually just on the outside looking in, with the Spartans being ranked 11th and the Wolverines 12th.

There are two reasons for this difference. For one, USC is actually ranked in the AP Top 25. The Trojans aren't eligible to be included in the USA Today Poll due to their NCAA sanctions. However, that isn't the case for the AP Top 25, which put the Trojans sixth. The other difference is that Wisconsin is ahead of the Wolverines and Spartans in the AP Top 25 despite losing to Oregon in the Rose Bowl. The USA Today Poll, on the other hand, opted to put the Badgers behind their Big Ten counterparts.

Here's the full AP Top 25:

College Football Rankings: Final USA Today Poll Puts Michigan Ahead Of MSU

With the BCS National Championship Game in the books, the final college football rankings of the season have been released. At the top of the USA Today Poll, there are no surprises. Monday night's winner, Alabama, is No. 1, followed by LSU, Oklahoma State and Oregon. Arkansas, yet another SEC team, rounds out the top five.

The bottom half of the top 10 is pretty interesting. Boise State, Stanford and South Carolina occupy spots 6-8. Next, at No. 9, is Michigan, which won the Sugar Bowl. Somehow the Wolverines finished one spot ahead of Michigan State, which won the Outback Bowl, even though the Spartans beat Michigan in the regular season.
