How about a bit of good news for Michigan Wolverines fans? Somewhat surprising news (though less surprising than it would have been a week ago) came out on Monday, concerning freshman guard Trey Burke. As reported by Jeff Goodman via Twitter, Burke plans to stay with the program for his sophomore season and eschew the NBA Draft:
Michigan announces Trey Burke is staying for his sophomore season. Changed his mind as last week he was gone to the NBA.

The news has since been confirmed by the University, who posted a press release on its official website. As the tweet above notes, there was talk of Burke being set on entering the NBA Draft just a week ago, primarily from a report by CBS Sports. Following that report, Michigan basketball coach John Beilein took to his blog, refuting the report and suggesting that Burke was still weighing the decision.
Burke had some good quotes in the official press release, where he notes that he was gathering information about the draft, and had to weigh all of that before making his decision. Perhaps Burke got certain advice from the draft advisory board, but whatever the case, he's excited to be back:
"I have so much more to develop as both a student and athlete, and there is no better place to do that than here at Michigan. I love my Michigan family and am really excited about playing with my teammates and our incoming freshmen. I want to thank my parents, my teammates and my coaches for the patience and guidance they gave me since this process began a few weeks ago."
Burke had a great freshman year with the Wolverines, and was named an Associated Press All-America honorable mention, averaging 14.8 points and 3.5 rebounds a game, adding 4.6 assists on top of that. There are more quotes in the official press release here.

Facing the possibility of losing his star point guard early to the NBA for the second consecutive spring, Michigan basketball coach John Beilein took to his blog on Thursday to refute reports that freshman Trey Burke was already dead-set on bolting for the NBA.
Burke still has until April 10 to make his decision, and Beilein simply wanted to step in and point out that Burke's camp appears to still be in the information gathering process, and not necessarily doing so with one foot out the door:
First, I would like to note that Wednesday's reports of Trey Burke's decision to enter the NBA draft were premature.
My coaching staff and I have met with Trey and his parents several times over the past two weeks. Collectively, we have gathered and shared with each of them some necessary information that we feel will help Trey make the most informed decision for his future.
The Burke family has been very receptive to our assistance and appreciates that we have encouraged Trey to take his time and look at all of his options between now and the April 10 deadline.
Michigan fans are expecting the absolute worst-case scenario here, and it seems unlikely that Burke would stick around Ann Arbor after flirting with the NBA lifestyle for a few weeks. Scouts are projecting him as a late-first, early-second round pick if he ends up keeping his name in the pool of draft-eligible players.

Is Michigan Wolverines point guard Trey Burke going to the NBA or not? Burke was reportedly considering that decision earlier this spring. A Wednesday report from CBS Sports said that Burke was expected to declare for the NBA draft, but a subsequent report cited Burke's father who said the opposite.
Here was Benji Burke's response to the CBS report about his son's basketball future:
Burke's father, Benji, told AnnArbor.com in a text message shortly after the report surfaced that "Trey has not declared and I haven't seen the report."
Neither Michigan or Burke have made a statement indicating what Burke actually plans to do. It was Burke's father who said in late March that his son was considering leaving Michigan for the pros. The accuracy and timing of the CBS report may hinge on the sources cited and who knows what at this point in time.
