Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datysuk and his present team, CSKA Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League, have the day off on Tuesday.
Coming off an impressive 4-1 victory on Monday, CSKA Moscow and its relatively new star player, Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk, are off on Tuesday like most of the Kontinental Hockey League. With loaded schedules for both Monday and Wednesday in Russia's premier hockey league, most teams are getting a day off on Tuesday.
While hockey fans here in the U.S. don't typically put too much stock into what's going on in foreign leagues, the current NHL lockout has created a vastly different landscape in the sport. With star NHL players like Datsyuk, Zdeno Chara, Evgeni Malkin and Alexander Ovechkin populating the league, it's one of the world's elite leagues at the moment.
Through eight games with CSKA Moscow so far, Datsyuk has played quite well, recording three goals and seven assists. Even though the center has only played in half of CSKA's games so far, he's already third on the team with 10 points.
