Henrik Zetterberg not planning to accept offer from Swiss team for now

Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg does not plan to sign overseas at the moment despite receiving an offer to play in Switzerland.

With some of his Detroit teammates already dispersed across European hockey leagues, Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg informed MLive.com's Ansar Khan on Wednesday that he will wait a little while longer before considering any offers to play overseas.

"I'm going to stay for now,'' Zetterberg said. "We haven't lost any games yet. Once you start to lose games, if you get an offer or get a deal on the table, maybe you think about it.''

The 31-year-old All-Star reportedly received an offer from Switzerland's HC Lugano that includes $53,000 per month in insurance to cover his contract along with a $2,000 monthly salary, but will continue to leave any possible deals on the table for the time being.

Though Zetterberg remains fully optimistic that a deal with get done and allow him to return to the ice in Detroit, he may reconsider his stance once the league starts eliminating regular season games in the coming days. Five Detroit players are already signed with European clubs at the moment including both Pavel Datsyuk and Valtteri Filppula, and Zetterberg is among a handful of Red Wings players likely to head overseas if the lockout drags on.
