Michigan football recruiting: David Dawson recommits; Delano Hill commits

Michigan picked up commitments from two players who attend Cass Tech High School on Saturday. Offensive guard David Dawson committed during his official visit, while safety Delano Hill committed after just picking up an offer from Michigan earlier in the week.

Dawson is already a familiar name to Michigan fans, as he had been committed before. He originally committed to Michigan back in February, but he was dropped in October after expressing a desire to take visits elsewhere. Recently, Dawson was reoffered by Michigan, and he rejoined the class on Saturday. This is big for the Wolverines, as Dawson is a consensus four-star recruit with an impressive offer list.

Hill, Dawson's high school teammate, was originally committed to Iowa, but he switched to Michigan after being offered by the Wolverines. He is a four-star recruit on most of the major recruiting sites, and he holds offers from Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, according to Rivals.

Former Michigan football recruit Gareon Conley commits to Ohio State

Three-star recruit Gareon Conley decommitted from Michigan football two weeks ago, and on Friday he reportedly committed to Ohio State. Conley reportedly had offers to Cincinnati, Northwestern and Marshall, aside from the initial offer by Michigan, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Ohio State could use Conley on either side of the ball, but Marcus Hartman of FOX Sports thinks the young man could fit very well in the defensive backfield:

Michigan has received 22 verbal commitments for 2013, and they still have a top-5 recruiting class, according to Rivals.com. The schools ahead of Michigan are Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida and USC. The Wolverines have received committments from one five-star recruit, 13 four-star recruits and seven three-star prospects. Ohio State has the No. 8 class according to Rivals. The next closest Big Ten teams are the Wisconsin Badgers at No. 26 and the Nebraska Cornhuskers at No. 31.

Michigan football recruiting: Gareon Conley decommits

For months, speculation surrounded the recruitment of Ohio cornerback Gareon Conley. He committed to Michigan way back in March, but there were plenty of rumors in recent months about him planning to take visits elsewhere, which would violate Brady Hoke's policy for commitments. Basically, it looked like Conley would eventually end up no longer being a commit to Michigan, and the situation finally came to a head on Tuesday with Conley decommitting.

Conley's decommitment comes as no surprise, and it leaves Michigan with 22 commits for 2013. The good news for Michigan is that it has several other defensive backs committed for its 2013 class, but it certainly would sting to see Conley wind up at Ohio State.

Michigan football recruiting: Da'Mario Jones commits

Michigan added a new commitment to its 2013 football recruiting class on Wednesday. Former Central Michigan commit Da'Mario Jones, a wide receiver from Westland, Michigan, committed to the Wolverines. He is Michigan's 23rd commitment for 2013, although with many expecting Gareon Conley to exit the class soon to take visits elsewhere, Jones may end up being the 22nd commit before too long.

As evidenced by the fact that he was committed to Central Michigan, Jones isn't exactly a big-time recruit. He is unrated on Rivals and Scout, and he has three stars on 24/7 Sports and ESPN. The former ranks him 19th in the state of Michigan and 152nd at wide receiver.

Jones committed right after he picked up an offer from Michigan. His other offers, according to 24/7 Sports, are from Bowling Green, Central Michigan, New Mexico and Ohio.

Michigan football recruiting: David Dawson no longer considered a commit

Last weekend, Michigan's 2013 football recruiting class shrunk from 23 commits to 22. This is because David Dawson, an offensive guard from Detroit Cass Tech, is no longer considered a Michigan commitment.

Dawson had expressed interest in visiting other schools in the past, which would have cost him his scholarship offer, but he never actually took any other visits. Last weekend, however, he informed Michigan coaches that he had scheduled a visit to Florida, according to the Detroit Free Press. Michigan's coaches, which have a strict no-visit policy for commits, reacted by pulling Dawson's scholarship offer and removing him from their 2013 class. Cass Tech coach Thomas Wilcher provided details on what happened.

"He told Michigan that he was going to visit Florida this weekend, and they told him that would mean he lost his scholarship offer," Cass Tech head coach Thomas Wilcher explained. "They explained that it was his choice [to visit Florida], but they were going to have him [decommit]."

With Dawson out of the picture and unlikely to enter back into it, Michigan is exploring other options to add another offensive lineman to its 2013 class. Having to part ways with a four-star recruit like Dawson certainly stings, but the good news for the Wolverines is that they have plenty of time to fill his spot. It also helps that they already have a very strong group of offensive linemen committed for 2013.

Michigan Football Recruiting: Shane Morris Hospitalized With Mono

The crowning jewel of Michigan football's 2013 signing class, five-star prep quarterback Shane Morris, was hospitalized for mononucleosis on Wednesday, according to a report by Tom VanHaaren of ESPN.com.

Morris was taken to a local hospital and is expected to stay the night for observation, but now faces an uncertain timetable with just five games remaining on his high school team's regular season schedule. Expected to be weakened physically for at least one month due to the virus, Morris told VanHaaren that he "has no clue" about whether he'll be able to suit up again in 2012.

While recovering from his illness, the 6'3, 190-pound Warren, Michigan native has curiously decided to completely ignore distractions like social media during his day-to-day routine. And as many of his thousands of Twitter followers have already found out, Morris's personal account will be no longer available. "I just suspended it," Morris said. "I need to rest while I have mono and I didn't want anything distracting me. I'll be back on."

Michigan Football Recruiting: Shane Morris Gets 5-Star Status On Rivals

With the high school football season set to begin this week across the nation (if it hasn't already in some states), Rivals released updated recruiting rankings on Monday. Several of Michigan's commits in the top 100 were actually dropped, but quarterback Shane Morris moved up from 22nd to 17th. While five spots may not seem like a huge jump, the move up took him from having four stars to being a five-star recruit.

Michigan Football Recruiting: Derrick Green Doesn't Commit During Weekend Visit

The Michigan football program had a big recruiting weekend. They did not add any new commits, but they hosted quite a few recruits for 2013 and beyond for their annual BBQ at the Big House. The event brought a lot of their current commits together, and it also brought a lot of potential commits to Ann Arbor.

One potential commit who visited was running back Derrick Green. He is considered the No. 1 running back in the nation for 2013 by Rivals, and many believed he was going to commit to Michigan during his weekend visit. The visit came right after Ohio State ran out of room for him, so the stars seemed to be aligning for the Wolverines.

While Green very well may end up committing to Michigan at some point, he didn't during his visit.

Green certainly seemed to have a good time, and according to many reports, he came close to pulling the trigger on a commitment. For now, though, his recruitment continues with him deciding against committing over the weekend.

Michigan has two spots left for 2013, and if everything goes according to plan, Green and wide receiver Laquon Treadwell will fill them. They are both highly regarded recruits, and adding even one of them would be a nice way to finish the '13 class. If Michigan is able to land both, there's a very good chance the Wolverines could end up finishing with the No. 1 class in the nation despite nearly being full seven months before signing day.
