Roger Chapman held on for his second career Champions Tour major title on Sunday, as the 53-year-old England native avoided a late charge from challengers to take the 2012 U.S. Senior Open Championship at 10-under par.

Chapman recorded a tournament-best 18 birdies during his four-round trek of the Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion, and capped his weekend off with a 4-under score of 66, tied for the lowest of the day. A big winner in the state of Michigan back in late May at the Senior PGA Championship in Benton Harbor, Chapman summed up his return trip to the mitten state with the most fitting thing that came to his mind. "It's pure Michigan," he said.

Finishing two strokes behind Chapman in a tie for second place was a group of four men that included Fred Funk, Tom Lehman, Corey Pavin and Bernhard Langer. Langer, the 54-hole leader at 10-under par, was never able to bounce back from a debilitating double bogey on his second hole of the day. The popular pick before the tournament began, Pavn's final round 68 gave him four straight days in red numbers, a feat only he and Chapman would be able to claim by tournament's end.

Five golfers are within three strokes of the lead on Sunday at the 2012 U.S. Senior Open Championship, as the contending groups head into the final stretch at Lake Orion's Indianwood Golf and Country Club.

Roger Chapman currently holds the lead at 9-under par with an impressive 3-under score for the day, while three men, Fred Funk, Tom Lehman and Bernhard Langer, remain two off the pace at 7-under. John Cook, who carded a 67 on Saturday, is 4-under through his final round and 6-under for the championship.

Langer, the 54-hole leader, opened his day with an unfortunate double bogey on the par-4 second hole to promptly give his lead away, and still has yet to make a birdie through 11 holes in his final round. Though he has been impeccable with greens in regulation (9 for 11), the German-born player continues to struggle with his putter.

A 53-year-old European Tour veteran, Chapman has been easily the most consistent player this week at Indianwood with three consecutive rounds of 68. He will need to remain composed down the stretch if he hopes to once again reign victorious in a senior major after taking home the Senior PGA Championship back in May.

After surging up the leaderboard with a day three-low 64 on Saturday, Germany's Bernhard Langer will enter the fourth and final round at the 2012 U.S. Senior Open Championship with a rather significant four-stroke advantage.

Looking to catch a beat on the 54-hole leader, a group of five men will open Sunday's 18-hole round at 6-under par and four strokes off the pace. Among those names lies none other than Corey Pavin, who responded to a disheartening two-stroke penalty at the end of his Friday with a third-round 68 to remain in contention. Pavin joins veterans Tom Pernice Jr., Roger Chapman, Tom Lehman and John Huston at 6-under, while four others, Fred Couples, Jay Haas, Fred Funk and Dick Mast, are hot on their heels at 5-under.

Live television coverage of the final round will begin at 3:00 p.m. ET on NBC and run until the conclusion of the tournament. But with as many as nine men within five strokes of Langer's 10-under mark with 18 holes left to play, it's hard to believe the last few holes at Indianwood's beautiful layout won't provide a great deal of excitement in the final round.

Powered by a stunning 6-under 64 score on Saturday, Bernhard Langer took full command of the 2012 U.S. Senior Open Championship heading into Sunday's final round.

Langer, who sits at 10-under par and four strokes ahead of his nearest competitors, birdied five of his first seven holes en route to a remarkable 30 on the front nine. Langer was able to pry the tournament's top spot away from 36-hole leader Lance Ten Broeck, who proceeded to slide down the leaderboard after finishing the day with a 2-over 72. Joining Langer in the final group on Sunday, scheduled to tee off at 1:50 p.m. EST, is Tom Pernice Jr., who carded a 66 in round three to stay four off the pace.

One of five players at 6-under, Pernice Jr. bounced back in a big way from his disappointing 71 on Friday with a strong round three. Although he bogeyed the par-4 18th hole to fall back into a crowded pack, Pernice Jr. did just enough to warrant consideration for the final group. Fred Couples has the best round of the day so far, shooting a five-under 65 in Saturday's third round. Couples is five shots back of the leader currently.

Three players - Peter Fowler, Peter Senior and Mike Goodes - fired rounds of 66 on Saturday. All three are currently tied for 19th with three-round scores of 210, Other notable rounds in Saturday play at the Senior Championship: Tom Watson shot an even-par 70. he is at 210, tied for 28th. Tom Pernice is five-under for the day after 17.Pernice is currently tied for second with Cory Pavin, two shots back of Langer.

Early in third-round play in the U.S. Senior Open Championship at Indianwood Golf Club in Lake Orion, Mich, three players are in the clubhouse with four-under-par rounds of 66 and several others at 67 and 68. Europeans Peter Senior and Peter Fowler, along with U.S. golfer Mike Goodes, posted early scores of 66 on Saturday.

Andrew Magee shot a 67 and Michael Allen, Jerry Pate and Gary Hallberg finished their third round at 2-under 68.

The last couple of pairings are just getting set to tee off, with most of the field out on the course.

Notable rounds thus far are Tom Watson at 2-under through 14, John Cook at 3-under through 11 and Peter Jacobsen at 1-under through 11.

On a wild second day at the 2012 U.S. Senior Open Championship, it was Lance Ten Broeck who took a one-stroke lead into the weekend over a bevy of notable contenders.

Ten Broeck, who actually served as a caddie after his PGA days before joining the senior tour, carded a pair of 34's on both the front and back nines to move to 6-under for the championship. The 56-year-old has done an impressive job of using his length to his advantage thus far, and is 5-under on par fives over the first two days.

First-round leader Tom Kite looked to be well on his way towards running away with the 36-hole lead, but shot an unprecedented 4-over on the same front nine track that he dominated for a 7-under 28 a day earlier. Kite's late day stumble (he finished with an even par 70) still only puts him one stroke away from Ten Broeck and the pace, but clearly spoiled a chance for the veteran's second straight day in red numbers.

Looming at 4-under sits a group of six men that includes notable names like Tom Lehman, Corey Pavin and Bernhard Langer. Lehman, who entered Friday's round five strokes off the pace, carded a 66 in his second round for the second lowest score of the day, behind only Jay Don Blake's 65.

Tom Kite continues to own sole possession of the lead at the 2012 U.S. Senior Open from Indianwood Golf and Country Club, as the 62-year-old short-game master is 2-under par through 13 holes with a one-stroke advantage.

After blowing everyone away on Thursday with a record-setting 28 on the front nine, Kite opened his second round on the back nine in much the same fashion, reeling off four birdies to card a 4-under 31. A pair of bogeys at No. 1 and No. 4 dropped Kite back to 7-under for the championship, but he remains in a prime position for the weekend if he can remain composed through his final holes.

Lurking right behind Kite throughout the entire major championship thus far has been Lance Ten Broeck, who currently sits at 6-under. Ten Broeck is also 2-under during his Friday round, but has a number of dangerous threats sitting behind him at 4-under. Arguably the most intriguing of those names happens to be Tom Lehman, who bounced back from his 70 on Thursday with an impressive 66 on Friday morning to enter the mix. Lehman's 66 is the second-lowest score to hit the clubhouse so far on Friday, as Jay Don Blake's sparkling round of 65 has not been touched.
