Michigan football recruiting: David Dawson recommits; Delano Hill commits

Michigan picked up commitments from two players who attend Cass Tech High School on Saturday. Offensive guard David Dawson committed during his official visit, while safety Delano Hill committed after just picking up an offer from Michigan earlier in the week.

Dawson is already a familiar name to Michigan fans, as he had been committed before. He originally committed to Michigan back in February, but he was dropped in October after expressing a desire to take visits elsewhere. Recently, Dawson was reoffered by Michigan, and he rejoined the class on Saturday. This is big for the Wolverines, as Dawson is a consensus four-star recruit with an impressive offer list.

Hill, Dawson's high school teammate, was originally committed to Iowa, but he switched to Michigan after being offered by the Wolverines. He is a four-star recruit on most of the major recruiting sites, and he holds offers from Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, according to Rivals.

Pistons vs. Nets: Andre Drummond active, but Detroit trails 59-47 at half

The Detroit Pistons cut a 17-point first half deficit to 10 in just 15 seconds of game action late in the second quarter and trail the Brooklyn Nets 59-47 at halftime of Friday's game.

Detroit went on a 7-0 run in the final minute of the half, getting a three-pointer by Brandon Knight, a layup by Kyle Singler and two free throws by Charlie Villanueva helped decrease Brooklyn's lead to 10 before Deron Williams pushed it back up to 12 with a layup just before the halftime buzzer.

The Pistons led 25-23 after the first quarter and received a good effort from rookie Andre Drummond off the bench. Drummond had four points, five rebounds (four on the offensive glass) and a block in eight minutes of action. Knight leads the Pistons with nine points and two assists and Rodney Stuckey scored eight points off the bench.

Gerald Wallace has 15 points for Brooklyn and Joe Johnson scored 14. Both shot 6 for 8 in the half.

Joe Johnson hit the game-winner agains the Pistons in the first game of a back-to-back for Detroit this weekend.

Unable to build any momentum after his team's hot finish to the month of November, Lawrence Frank and the Detroit Pistons will try to get back in the win column this weekend with a pair of games against playoff-caliber opponents.

On Friday evening, the Pistons will tip off in Brooklyn for a conference game with a rejuvenated Nets team featuring a potent backcourt of Deron Williams and Joe Johnson. Despite having four players who are scheduled to earn at least $12 million this season, the Nets have been marred with inconsistency and are already four games behind the conference-leading New York Knicks. Although Brooklyn edged Toronto on Wednesday, the Nets will also enter Friday's game on a complete slide with losses in five of their last six games.

The Pistons will return home the following day for an evening game at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Saturday, as the Indiana Pacers and the No. 2 scoring defense in the NBA will come to town. Saturday's game will mark the first of five meetings this season between the two Central Division rivals. The Pacers will bring a varied offensive attack led by the trio of David West, Paul George and George Hill, who combine to average more than 48 points per game.

Michigan State football recruiting: Michael Geiger commits

Michigan State picked up a commitment from the nation's top kicker on Saturday. Toledo's Michael Geiger, who was previously committed to Boston College, decided to join the Spartans' recruiting class, and he became their 15th commit for 2013.

Geiger has three stars on Rivals and 24/7 Sports. Both sites consider him the No. 1 kicker in the nation for the 2013 class, meaning he should provide a nice boost to the Spartans' special teams when he joins the team.

According to Rivals, Geiger's only other offer is from Boston College.

Bulls vs. Pistons score update: Hot-shooting Detroit leads 55-50 at halftime

Detroit Pistons point guards Brandon Knight and Rodney Stuckey have combined for 27 points on 9-for-11 shooting as the Pistons lead the Chicago Bulls 55-50 at halftime Friday. The Pistons are shooting 54 percent overall and 57 percent from 3-point range.

Knight is coming off a 1-for-9 shooting performance in Detroit's loss to Golden State on Wednesday and has been battling a thigh bruise. Stuckey, who is shooting just 35 percent for the season, also has five assists in the first half. Stuckey and Knight have combined to turn the ball over just twice.

Joakim Noah leads the Bulls with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first half. Carlos Boozer has 10 points. The Bulls are shooting 49 percent.

The Pistons led 30-26 after the first quarter and built the lead to as many as 11 in the second quarter before the Bulls closed the gap before halftime. Pistons rookie big man Andre Drummond has four points and three rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench.

Michigan football recruiting: Gareon Conley decommits

For months, speculation surrounded the recruitment of Ohio cornerback Gareon Conley. He committed to Michigan way back in March, but there were plenty of rumors in recent months about him planning to take visits elsewhere, which would violate Brady Hoke's policy for commitments. Basically, it looked like Conley would eventually end up no longer being a commit to Michigan, and the situation finally came to a head on Tuesday with Conley decommitting.

Conley's decommitment comes as no surprise, and it leaves Michigan with 22 commits for 2013. The good news for Michigan is that it has several other defensive backs committed for its 2013 class, but it certainly would sting to see Conley wind up at Ohio State.

Pistons vs. Knicks final score: Detroit loses, 121-100

Still looking for their first back-to-back wins of the season, the Detroit Pistons lost, 121-100, to the New York Knicks on Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden. It's the third time this season that Detroit has failed to be victorious in the game directly following a win.

Things looked dire for the Pistons right from the start as the Knicks finished the first quarter on a 14-4 run to take a double-digit lead in the second quarter. Detroit responded by beginning the second with a 7-0 run to trim New York's lead to 32-29, but things unraveled from there as the Knicks finished the half on a 26-10 run.

Trailing by 20 points going into the second half against one of the league's better teams, the Pistons unsurprisingly couldn't muster a comeback. They did manage to cut New York's lead to nine points at one point in the third quarter, but the Knicks promptly expanded the lead back into double-digits.

The Pistons shot a solid 47 percent from the field, but they struggled with turnovers and couldn't withstand New York's barrage of three-pointers. The Knicks drained 17 of 33 (52 percent) from long range during the game in addition to knocking down 28 of 31 attempts from the charity stripe.

Brandon Knight led Detroit scorers with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while Charlie Villanueva and Kyle Singler added 17 and 16, respectively. Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 29 points, including four three-pointers.

Pistons vs. Knicks: Detroit falls to New York, 121-100

The Detroit Pistons were blown out by the New York Knicks on Sunday afternoon.

After losing eight straight to start the season, the Detroit Pistons have won three of their last five and look to keep the momentum going Sunday as they head to Madison Square Garden to play the New York Knicks.

Sunday will mark the first matchup between these two teams this season.

Detroit is coming off a 91-90 win over the Toronto Raptors in which Brandon Knight scored a layup with under 10 seconds remaining to take the lead and, eventually, the game. Knight is one of three Pistons averaging in double figures through 13 games this season, with 11 points per game, adding 6.2 assists as well. Greg Monroe leads the club with 17.2 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game.

The Knicks, coming off two straight losses in which they gave up 114 and 131 points, look to rebound against a Pistons team that averages only 92.2 points per contest. The Knicks are 8-3 and sit near the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
