The Detroit Tigers will travel to the Big Apple to face the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the ALCS on Saturday night. Both teams advanced to the ALCS after winning a do-or-die Game 5, and in doing so eliminated the two upstart teams (Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles) of this year's MLB Playoffs.
With both team's aces -- Justin Verlander and CC Sabathia -- burned in the deciding games, each manager will turn to another starter for the series' first game. Yankees skipper Joe Girardi has yet to announce who his starter will be, but the Tigers will start Doug Fister. In Fister's first start of the 2012 playoffs, he allowed two earned runs and six hits over seven innings in Detroit's Game 2 victory over the A's. Fister faced the Yankees once this season, allowing two earned runs and eight hits over 6.1 innings while striking out four in a Tigers loss on August 9.
Fister also faced the Yankees twice in Detroit's ALDS win last season, taking the loss in Game 1 but grabbing the win in the decisive in Game 5 in Yankee Stadium.
Saturday's game will start at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on TBS.
