Jose Valverde going into World Series with positive mindset

Detroit Tigers closer Jose Valverde wants to start fresh in the World Series, and says he's going to get the save in the clinching game.

Detroit Tigers closer Jose Valverde has struggled in the playoffs, but he says the 2012 World Series will be different. In fact, Valverde says he will be the one to record the series-clinching save.

The quirky fireballer has already given up seven earned runs over just 2 innings in the 2012 postseason, but he is trying to present himself in a confident manner as the World Series approaches:

The 34-year-old veteran closer recorded 35 saves during the 2012 regular season, but he also posted his highest WHIP (1.246) since 2006 and the lowest strikeout rate (6.3 SO/9) of his 10-year MLB career. The Tigers need the best Valverde has to offer for the rest of the postseason, because the stakes are high. Pape Grande is just one year removed from an All-Star appearance and a career-high 49 saves, so perhaps he can tap into that vibe for the final series of the season.
