Delmon Young won the American League Championship Series MVP award as his Tigers swept the Yankees, making his brother Dmitri Young proud in the process.

When the Detroit Tigers cut Dmitri Young in 2006, his younger brother and current holder of the American League Championship Series MVP award Delmon Young was there to support him, according to a report Tony Paul of The Detroit News on Friday.

"Del was one of those people who told me, 'Don't let people dictate who you are just because of some bullcrap that happened to you," Dmitri said in the report. "You rise above what happened and you go from there.

"Obviously, he practiced what he preached."

Young hit for a .353 average with two home runs and six RBI in the Tigers' overwhelming sweep of the New York Yankees in the ALCS, also becoming the first player in MLB postseason history to drive in four game-winning RBI in the same playoff series, according to STATS LLC.

"Me being a big brother, am I proud?" Dmitri said of his brother Delmon in the report. "Extremely, extremely proud."
