After their longest break of the season, the Tigers now know their World Series opponent

Four days after sweeping the New York Yankees in the ALCS, the Detroit Tigers finally have an opponent in the 2012 World Series as they will take on the San Francisco Giants.

The Giants defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-0, in Game 7 of the NLCS on Monday to advance. San Francisco trailed St. Louis 3-1 in the series before winning three games in a row to earn a spot in the World Series opposite the Tigers.

The Giants also fell behind 2-0 versus the Cincinnati Reds in the NLDS before winning three in a row in that series to advance to play the Cardinals.

Detroit needed five games to defeat the Oakland Athletics in the ALDS and swept the Yankees four straight in the ALCS to advance to the World Series.

This is the Giants second World Series appearance in the last three years as they won it all in 2010. This is Detroit's second appearance in the World Series since 2006.
