On Wednesday night, the Detroit Tigers will begin their quest to win their first World Series since 1984. They will be facing the San Francisco Giants, who are two years removed from their last championship and who advanced by defeating the reigning champions, the St. Louis Cardinals.

Thanks to their sweep of the New York Yankees, the Tigers will be able to open with their best foot forward. On the mound for Detroit will be ace Justin Verlander, who has been brilliant in the playoffs so far. In three starts, Verlander has allowed just two earned runs in 24 innings pitched. Against the Yankees, Verlander went 8 1/3 innings, allowing just one run while striking out three.

The Giants will counter with the rejuvenated Barry Zito, who shut the Cardinals out over 7 2/3 innings in Game 5 of the NLCS. At home in 2012, Zito posted a 4.00 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP over 17 starts. In those starts, which spanned 101.1 innings, he allowed just eight homers.

First pitch will be at 8:07 p.m. ET -- the game will be broadcast on FOX.
