Giants vs. Tigers final score: San Francisco defeats Detroit, 2-0

The San Francisco Giants now lead the Tigers 3-0 in the 2012 World Series.

The San Francisco Giants defeated the Detroit Tigers 2-0 in Game 3 of the 2012 World Series to take a commanding 3-0 lead.

No team in Major League Baseball history has come back from a 3-0 series deficit in the World Series. Detroit was shut out for the second consecutive game by the Giants, and the Tigers have only managed to score three runs in the series, all of which came in Game 1.

The Giants scored both of their runs in the second inning, when Gregor Blanco tripled to center field to score Hunter Pence from third. Blanco was driven home on a Brandon Crawford single to center field to extend San Francisco's lead to 2-0.

The Tigers had an opportunity to score in the fifth inning when Omar Infante singled to advance Alex Avila and put runners on first and second with one out. Austin Jackson then walked to load the bases, but Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong struck out Quintin Berry and got Miguel Cabrera to pop out in the infield to end the inning.

Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out eight in seven innings of work. Joaquin Benoit and Phil Coke combined for two scoreless innings in relief of Sanchez.

The loss is the Tigers' sixth in a row in the World Series dating back to 2006, and ended a five-game home winning streak this post-season.
