The Detroit Tigers scratched starting catcher Alex Avila in favor of Gerald Laird.
The Detroit Tigers' lineup will be challenged with solving Matt Cain's pitching in order to stay alive in Sunday's Game 4 of the World Series. The San Francisco Giants' starter has a postseason ERA of 1.83, and the Tigers will send out a lineup with one major change from Saturday's Game 3 loss.
Gerald Laird will be batting last in the order and catching for Detroit starting pitcher Max Scherzer. The move was a last-minute change from catcher Alex Aliva, who was left out of the lineup because of a sore right arm, according to The Associated Press. Avila was hit on the arm by a foul-tip in Game 1 of the World Series.
