Tigers set AL record for losing streak in World Series

Scott Rovak-USA TODAY Sports

Detroit's seven consecutive World Series losses is the worst mark in American League history.

In the process of getting swept by the San Francisco Giants, the Detroit Tigers set a record that no team would be proud of. Detroit has now lost seven straight World Series games dating back to the 2006 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The all-time record regardless of league is eight losses.

Of course, one has to reach the World Series on multiple occasions to set such a record, but that is still a thin silver lining. In those seven losses, the Tigers have been outscored 30-14 and have twice seen their opponent streak to a title.

Detroit will likely return much of their entire team next season, in addition to any new acquisitions, so they will have a shot of making it back to the series and breaking this streak. Of course, a championship is still the ultimate goal, and Detroit will approach this offseason with that firmly in mind.
