Some experts at ESPN are selecting the Detroit Tigers to win the World Series in 2012.

In the MLB Playoffs, once you get into the tournament you're chances of winning the World Series are nearly just as good as any other playoff team. The expert panel at ESPN is populated with diverse opinions that reflect this uncertainty, and projected World Series winners include the Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, Washington Nationals, Atlanta Braves, Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers.

The Tigers have a top heavy rotation built for the postseason, and that's why six of the 30 experts at ESPN have selected Justin Verlander, Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera and company as the team that will emerge from the chaos. Furthermore, 21 of the 30 panelists selected the Tigers to at least advance to the ALCS -- usually for a matchup against the New York Yankees -- so there is some solid optimism surrounding the AL Central champions heading into the playoffs.

The Tigers open their ALDS series at home against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
