Rick Osentoski-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Tigers will send out Justin Verlander to slow the Oakland A's in Game 1 of their ALDS.

With wins in eight of their last 10 games, the Detroit Tigers were able to hold off the Chicago White Sox and earn themselves a trip to the postseason. However, they'll have to get through the similarly hot Oakland A's who also won eight of their last 10.

In Game 1 of their American League Divisional Series (ALDS), the Tigers will send out their best pitcher to try and give them a 1-0 lead in the series at home. Justin Verlander finished 2012 with a 2.64 ERA, the second best mark in the AL, and a 17-8 record. No pitcher threw in more innings.

Starting for the A's will be the much less prestigious Jarrod Parker, who had a very strong September to help the Oakland playoff push. His last start, though, wasn't as strong, as he allowed two home runs to the Rangers, but managed to escape with win No. 13 on the season.

The first pitch at Comerica Park on Saturday is scheduled to be thrown at 6:07 p.m. ET and will be televised on TBS.
