Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Sam Young recorded a three-point play with 22.6 seconds remaining, as the Memphis Grizzlies snuck past the Detroit Pistons, 106-103, to go undefeated in the preseason.
Young ended with 16 points for the Grizzlies, who went 8-0 during exhibition play. Marc Gasol also added 16 points for Memphis, which got 15 points from O.J. Mayo.
Austin Daye tallied 22 points and six rebounds for the Pistons, who ended the preseason with a 3-5 mark. Rodney Stuckey had 18 points and seven assists in defeat.
Trailing by one, 103-102, Young made a driving layup and free throw to give Memphis a 105-103 lead with 22.6 ticks left. After Stuckey had a jumper blocked, Hamed Haddadi made 1-of-2 from the foul line to make it a 106-103 game with 16.6 seconds remaining.
Young blocked DaJuan Summers's three-point attempt, but would miss two shots from the charity stripe with 4.6 ticks to go. Stuckey missed a very long three-pointer as time expired.
The Grizzlies open the regular season against the Hawks on Wednesday, while the Pistons play the Nets on the same day.
