Michigan Basketball Wins Opener, 66-35, Over South Carolina Upstate

Michigan basketball tipped off its 2010-11 season by beating the Spartans. Well, not the Michigan State Spartans.

Tim Hardaway, Jr. scored 19 points and Darius Morris added 17, leading Michigan to a 66-35 win over South Carolina Upstate in its season opener.

Zack Novak contributed eight rebounds, along with seven points for the Wolverines. Stu Douglass scored eight points off the bench.

Michigan held Upstate to 22 percent (12-of-54) shooting from the field. But head coach John Beilein thought his team's defense should've helped the offense score more points.

From AnnArbor.com:

"This score, ideally, would be 75 or 80 points in a game like this, but we didn’t take advantage of some great opportunities to fast break," he said.

According to reports, the biggest cheer in Crisler Arena for the night came late in the second half, when Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson came in to watch the last five minutes of the game.

Michigan's next game is Thursday at home versus Bowling Green at 7 p.m. ET.
