Red Wings Injury News: Johan Franzen Misses Practice; Chris Osgood Day To Day

The Red Wings haven't been quite as banged up as they were by this time last year, but they have been dealing with their fair share of injuries. Rather than break the updates into multiple posts, let's run down a list of the latest news involving injured Red Wings players.

  • Johan Franzen missed practice on Thursday, but he expects to play on Friday night against the Oilers. Franzen is dealing with a hip flexor that was reaggravated on Wednesday against Calgary.
  • Chris Osgood injured his groin on Monday and is considered day to day. Jimmy Howard was dealing with a back injury last week, allowing Osgood to start in back-to-back games. Howard returned on Wednesday in part because Osgood was out. Joey MacDonald once again served as the Wings' backup goalie.
  • Jonathan Ericsson returned on Wednesday night after being out since Oct. 8 because of a bulging disk. He was paired with Nicklas Lidstrom on the Wings' first defensive line. (Doug Janik was assigned to Grand Rapids with Ericsson returning.)
  • An update on Brian Rafalski can be found here.
