Detroit's Ford Field To Host First-Round CONCACAF Gold Cup Matches

Detroit's Ford Field has been selected as one of nine venues that will host first-round matches of the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Each of the first-round sites will host a doubleheader. The games in Detroit will be played on Thursday, June 7, and the four teams that will participate will be announced in February. Tickets for the matches will also go on sale in February.

The CONCACAF Gold Cup determines the regional champion of North America, Central America and the Caribbean. (CONCACAF stands for "Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football.") The Gold Cup champion goes on to represent CONCACAF in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Cowboys Stadium in Dallas and Soldier Field in Chicago are among the other eight venues that will host first-round Gold Cup matches. The semifinals will be played at Reliant Stadium in Houston on June 22, with the Rose Bowl hosting the final on June 25.
