Michigan State has gotten off to a sluggish start this season, losing four games in the non-conference portion of the schedule. While all of those losses came to good teams, MSU has not looked like the No. 2 team in the nation, which is where the polls had the Spartans ranked at the beginning of the season. After losing in very ugly fashion to Texas last week at home, Michigan State has dropped all the way down to 20th in the latest AP Top 25.
The Spartans aren't the only Big Ten team ranked in the 20s. Illinois, which is off to a 10-3 start, is ranked 23rd in the new AP Top 25. Ohio State is the highest-ranked Big Ten team, coming in at No. 2, right behind Duke, the unanimous No. 1. Purdue is ranked 12th and Minnesota is 14th, giving the Big Ten a total of five teams in the AP Top 25. (Wisconsin is third in the others receiving votes category.)
