GM Dave Dombrowski told Steve Kornacki of MLIVE that the Tigers acquired Diamondbacks' RHP Billy Buckner, a former 2nd round pick, and “substantial” cash considerations in exchange for Dontrelle Willis.
Fox Sports’ Jon Morosi confirmed the deal and added that the Tigers are responsible for Willis’ entire salary except the prorated minimum, which is $400,000.
Billy Buckner will be immediately optioned to AAA Toledo. This means the Tigers managed to receive two minor leaguers and $800,000 for their two washed up LHPs whose 2010 contracts equaled $22 million. And, no, Billy Buckner is not related to the infamous Bill Buckner.
