Tigers Drop Series Opener Against Indians

DETROIT (Sports Network) - Jake Westbrook pitched 7 2/3 stellar innings to lift the Cleveland Indians to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers in the opener of a three-game AL Central series at Comerica Park.

Westbrook (3-3) allowed one run on five hits for Cleveland, which won for only the fourth time in its last 15 games. Shin-Soo Choo and Russell Branyan both homered in the victory.

Jeremy Bonderman was solid in his eight-inning start but suffered the loss for the struggling Tigers, who have dropped eight of their last 10 games overall. Bonderman (2-3) was charged with three runs on nine hits.

Miguel Cabrera posted two hits and scored the lone run in the losing effort.
