Fu-Te Ni's Translator Is Versatile

Steve Xiu, the translator of Tigers pitcher Fu-Te Ni, is pretty talented. In addition to speaking Taiwanese, Xiu also plays a mean saxophone, as showcased on Tuesday night before the Tigers-Indians game.

Xiu performed the national anthem on his saxophone Tuesday at Comerica Park prior to the first game of a three-game home series against the Indians.

Xiu earned a musical performance degree at the University of Arizona before beginning work as a translator. He got his start in the White Sox farm system and eventually moved to the Tigers to translate for Taiwanese outfielder Chao-Ting Tang.

Xiu is now Ni's translator, so this is his first year "in the big leagues," as the article mentions.
