Boesch Wins AL Rookie Honors For May

Brennan Boesch has taken very little time making a name for himself in the major leagues.

Boesch won the American League Rookie of the Month award for May, after a sizzling start to his big league career. Boesch hit .345 (29-for-84) with 15 RBIs and three home runs in his first full month in Detroit.  He hit safely in 13 of his first 14 games and had 10 multi-hit games.  And on top of that, he is getting noticed for his gloves as well, earning a spot in ESPN's Top Ten plays after a making a catch while falling into the stands during a game against the Seattle Mariners on May 26.

Boesch is the second straight Tigers player to snag AL Rookie of the Month in 2010, with teammate Austin Jackson taking the award for April.

Boesch's presence in the lineup has provided a long-needed power bat to protect Miguel Cabrera's spot in the lineup. Cabrera has been hitting well all season, but with Boesch batting fifth in the order behind him, teams are now unable to pitch around the Tigers' first baseman to get an easy out.

Jason Heyward won the award in the National League, his second consecutive win.
