Reports: Red Wings Sign Tomas Holmstrom To Two-Year Deal

Fox Detroit's Jennifer Hammond reported earlier that the Red Wings came to terms with Tomas Holmstrom

Another Swede gets locked up by the Wings as the team comes to terms on a new two year deal with net front warrior Tomas Holmstrom.

Greg Brady, a co-host of The Bill Watters Show in Toronto, also reported on his Twitter feed that the Red Wings got the pesky forward for cheaper than the $2.25 million he received in 2009-2010:

Red Wings sign Holmstrom. Tomas Holmstrom's cap hit for a 2 year deal is 1.875M/ year......

After Lidstrom signed a deal earlier this week, re-signing the 37-year old Holmstrom was clearly next on the Red Wings offseason agenda. Holmstrom is one of the best in the game at doing the dirty work in front of the net and has played all his games wearing the winged-wheel sweaters.

I don't know if anybody expected the re-signing to happen this fast. It not only would lock up one of their big power play guys, but it also gives the Red Wings more time to worry about their other needs heading into next season. No major Detroit media sources have put the move in print and we haven't heard from Ken Holland yet, but stay tuned for updates.
