Red Wings, Mayor Bing Extend JLA negotiations

The Detroit Red Wings officially became homeless today, but Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and the team plan on fixing that soon.

The Red Wings' lease on Joe Louis Arena ran out on Wednesday, but the team and city have agreed to extend negotiations on a new lease for next season

Owner Mike Ilitch stated back in May the team would probably play at Joe Louis next season. However, the Red Wings have been exploring their options, such as temporarily moving to the Palace of Auburn Hills or even Ford Field, which recently hosted the 2010 NCAA Frozen Four.

The ultimate goal is for a new downtown arena, as the aging JLA is quickly becoming outdated. Ilitch's name has been thrown around in talks for buying the Pistons as well, which would then allow him to build a new arena for both the Pistons and Red Wings.
