Tigers Drop Series Opener 7-3

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Jason Kendall collected three hits and drove in three runs, as Kansas City logged a 7-3 win against Detroit in the opener of a three-game series from Kauffman Stadium.

Scott Podsednik scored three times, had two hits and knocked in one, while David DeJesus notched two RBI for the Royals, who won for just the second time in seven games.

Bruce Chen (2-0) got the start and lasted five-plus innings while surrendering two runs on four hits to get the win.

Detroit's Max Scherzer (2-5) was reached for five runs and nine hits in five- plus innings in the loss. Brennan Boesch hit a three-run homer to account for the offense.
