Pistons Forward Chris Wilcox Exercises $3 Million Player Option

New, 2 comments

The Pistons forward who appeared in the fewest number of games amongst all Pistons last season has exercised his player option to return to the team for the 2010-2011 season

Chris Wilcox has exercised his player option for the 2010-11 season. But whether the forward will play for the Detroit Pistons remains to be seen.

Wilcox could be moved in a trade should the Pistons need to make the salaries of the players involved in a potential trade match up. Wilcox is under contract for $3 million for next season.

This was a no-brainer move for Wilcox -- there was no chance he'd receive that kind of money in free agency. The expectations for Wilcox far exceeded his totals from last season, so the ideal outcome in all of this would be to use him as a trading chip.  There's no telling what kind of trade market there is for an overpriced, underachieving forward, but a team looking to shed some salary after next season might be willing to take a flyer on him if it allows dealing a bigger contract.
