Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Jose Guillen hit a three-run homer to back a strong start from Brian Bannister, as the Kansas City Royals topped the Detroit Tigers, 7-2, in the rubber match of a three-game series.
Bannister (6-3) limited Detroit to two runs in 7 1/3 innings to take the win for a fifth consecutive start. He gave up five hits, walked one and struck out five.
Yuniesky Betancourt doubled twice and drove in two for Kansas City, which ended its homestand with a 3-4 mark.
Jeremy Bonderman (2-4) took the loss after allowing all seven runs on 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings.
